FANTASTIC NEWS! Leela has a FOREVER Family! Here’s her Happy Ending Story….
Leela’s family planned to leave the country, leaving Leela behind in a shelter. The shelter contacted us with video’s and a brief bio from her previous owners. In the video, we noticed she had a limp and terribly sore tear stained eyes. The shelter followed up with x-rays and it appeared she had bad knees. Over all, she was in rough shape and only rescue could help.
Merlins Hope committed to her and had our vet see her right away. They concluded her hips were shot and all eyelids were curled inward. This poor marshmallow of a dog was nothing but gentle and loving despite the pain her body was in.
We moved forward with her vetting and had her spayed, entropion surgery, shaved her matted pants, started her on cartrophen injections, supplements and gabapentin for pain. Even her harnesse was changed to help ease pressure points. To keep her comfortable, she’ll require a lifelong continuation of medical support along with supplements and possibly further equipment to help with her mobility.
The likeliness of finding her a suitable forever home was going to be impossible….or so we thought. While making routine calls to update our application list, one of the first conversation immediately took a very unexpected turn. A pre-approved applicant assumed we were calling about Leela, and could barely contain her excitement. She closely followed Leela’s story and was patiently waiting for her to become available for adoption. It was obvious to us, this applicant was already emotionally invested in our girl…but we still had to discuss what Leela’s future looked like which could easily and understandably deter a potential adoption. Incredibly, and thankfully, it did not. Leela’s family knew the moment they laid eyes on her, she was going to be a part of their lives. They clearly understood what Leela needed and were willing to do what ever it took to make sure she is happy and comfortable. They welcomed her into her new home and promised to spoil her every day. She has three beds for her choosing, one being an orthopaedic of course. Leela, now Coco-Bella, has a handsome canine brother. They enjoy walks together and each others company like two best friends. Most importantly, Leela has a forever home filled with love and happiness, a perfect fairy tale ending for a sweet beautiful girl. Congratulations, Coco-Bella and family!
